Disability before and after coronary artery bypass grafting: the dynamics and causes

The study of the causes and dynamics of disability in 1450 patients with coronary artery disease undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery in 2000-2009. Chelyabinsk in the interprovincial cardiac centers. It is shown that the structure of disability of patients after coronary artery bypass grafting, not all cases getting sick restricted work due to ischemic heart disease, or operation performed in 7.9 % of cases, patients receive a disability due to diseases of other organs and systems, other than cardiovascular. None of the patients who were identified disability before surgery, it was not removed after the surgical treatment of coronary artery disease, which confirms the existence of this category of patients persistent functional impairment. Comparison of socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the groups of patients who did not have a disability before surgery and continued to work after surgery, with survey data of patients who have a disability was defined after the surgery, showed no statistically significant differences. It is concluded that the factors that influence the definition of disability after coronary artery bypass grafting are clinical and functional status of the cardiovascular system and the severity of comorbid disease, social, and psychological factors.
