Today scientists are discusssing about global changes associated with new computer technologies. We refer to the formation of a society dependent on the continuous receipt of new information. Mediatization penetrates into all spheres of human life, and its influence is especially noticeable when people communicate on social networks. The fact that any user of social networks can leave a comment on news press releases demonstrates modern trends in breaking down linguistic and stylistic boundaries. The purpose of our research is to identify the main types of invective in texts containing comments made by social network users to news releases, and to determine their word formation models. To address this issue, we employed a qualitative methodological approach to data collection and analysis. Data collection was carried out through sampling. We analyzed a total of 400 comments posted by social network users on the website 74.ru. The texts in the sample were published during the last year, and the volume of each text did not exceed 2-3 sentences. The addressees included any groups of people, regardless of their age and profession. This study showed that most of the invectives present in the comments were ethnic invectives, which can become a source of inciting social and national hatred. The main methods of word formation are compounding, clipping, abbreviation, and conversion. The results obtained contribute to the expansion of empirical knowledge on this topic and can be applied in the fields of translation studies and psycholinguistics.
