Introduction: the article is devoted to modern problems of the formation and development of the terminological apparatus of forensic science and the general theory of forensic examination. In particular, the issues of inventory and unification of scientific terms are being investigated. Currently, the terms are rightly considered as a tool for the acquisition, storage, reproduction, transmission of special information, creating a system of linguistic expression of special concepts (terminology) necessary for the development of cognitive and transformative human activities. Consequently, the term acts as a means of transmission or exchange of information not only in space, but also in time. In recent years, the rapid development of science and technology, the discovery of new knowledge, the development and implementation of various technologies creates a situation where the emergence of new terms is inevitable. At the same time, the formation and replenishment of the terminological apparatus of any science, for their harmonious inclusion and full use not only in theory, but also in practice, should take place in accordance with the developed norms and rules of terminology, as an independent branch of knowledge. However, this does not always happen, which emphasizes the importance and necessity of scientific research in this direction and the development of appropriate recommendations to eliminate the existing inaccuracies and shortcomings of various terminological systems. The specified problem of the emergence and inclusion of new terms in theory and practice is also inherent in such sciences as forensic science and the general theory of forensic examination, the terminological apparatus of which, developing on a single terminological field of disclosing and investigating crimes, has significantly replenished in recent years. At the same time, the replenishment took place not only due to the emergence of new discoveries and achievements in related sciences, which were adopted, for example, by the subjects of investigative and forensic activities, but also due to the emergence of their own terms, which arose as a result of the enrichment of their own scientific knowledge. However, as practice shows, there are a lot of terminological inaccuracies and contradictions, which significantly complicates not only the development of theoretical concepts in these areas, but also leads to many problems in the field of law enforcement. Materials and methods: the regulatory framework of the study was made up of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the criminal procedure legislation of the Russian Federation, regulatory legal acts regulating forensic activity, as well as the works of domestic and foreign researchers on the issues under study. When writing the article, the fundamental provisions of materialistic dialectics were used, as well as general and particular methods of scientific knowledge: logical-philosophical, historical, generalization, analogy, abstraction, description, sociological, comparative-legal and others. Results of the study: the features of inventory and unification of terms are analyzed as some of the main directions of development of the terminology of forensic science and the general theory of forensic examination. The features of education are revealed and recommendations are given on the specifics of the formation of the terminological apparatus of these sciences, taking into account the regulatory requirements for the ordering of terms developed in terminology (unambiguity, correctness, accuracy, consistency, ability to derivation, etc.). Finding and conclusions: it is concluded that the modern terminological apparatus of forensic science and the general theory of forensic examination is formed in accordance with the general principles of terminology, forming its own special terminological system. At the same time, the existing features of the language of the designated disciplines should be taken into account for its organic integration into the general terminological system of legal and applied sciences.
