The article discusses questions of the students’ vocational competency development by means of the engineering graphics academic disciplines. The authors reveal contradictions between requirements of the federal state education standards to the graphic skills of students with specializations in construction and the limited possibility to meet these requirements in the curriculums due to the decrease of academic hours assigned for the engineering graphics training.
