John Lydus and the libraries in Constantinople of 6th century ce

This work is devoted to the study of the sources of the books of the early Byzantine writer-antiquary of the 1st half of the 6th century, Johannes Lydus. On the basis of his works and the works of his contemporaries, the article analyzes the presence of various libraries in early Byzantine Constantinople. The capital of the Eastern Roman Empire had a lot of libraries, both public and private, and the publishing industry was comparatively highly developed, so that early Byzantine intellectuals could personally refer to a large number of ancient and modern literature.
