The colony of political exiles in Irkutsk and its role in the city's public life in the late XIXth - early XXth century

The article deals with the number, structure and social composition of the colony of political exiles in Irkutsk at the turn of the XIXth and XXth centuries, revealing the main activities and forms of participation of revolutionaries in the opposition movement. The author comes to the conclusion that the exiled narodniks had a significant positive effect on local society, enriching the cultural life of the city and contributing to the growth of its self-awareness, citizenship and political culture.
