Artificial after-ripening of oil flax seeds as a method of shifting the secondary summer sowing to an earlier date (report II)

The conducted researches showed that the harvesting of immature oil flax plants after 20-22 days of flowering and their artificial after-ripening provide high seed germination. The after-ripening of oil flax seeds consists in isolation of green plants in polyethylene or thick brown paper. This method prevents an excessively rapid loss of water by the plant tissues and an increase of concentration in them of aging and maturation hormones, which provide complete or partial destruction of inhibiting germination of immature seeds of chlorophyll within several days. As a result of artificial after-ripening of harvested a month before the natural maturation of female plants of oil flax of F 1 oil flax seeds the high field germination is experimentally obtained. The sowing of these seeds in mid-June and maturation of F 1 plants with naturally ripened F 2 hybrid seeds indicates the practical possibility of shifting the dates of the secondary summer sowing and harvesting of oil flax to the earlier periods of September.
