The problem of intellectual activity is one of the most constant tasks of pedagogical science. Each temporary boundary offered its own methodology according to its peculiarities. Our time is a time of change. Now the world needs people who can make ideal decisions, who can think creatively, find out the effectiveness of using didactic materials in the process of studying the subject "Biology" as a means of developing the cognitive potential of students. Surveys, questionnaires, tests of teachers and students, monitoring the activities of teachers and students in the classroom during experiments is one of the possible ways to develop cognitive activity. Didactic maps, due to their specificity and structure, are able to simultaneously form various components of independent educational activity of scientists.
