The author studies the issue of legally significant messages in which the parties (party) of legal communication use the language of ideograms and emoticons. Studying the issue in this aspect allows for expanding understanding of their use, giving the opportunity to evaluate the possibility of using emojis and emoticons in correspondence and its legal consequence. Taking into account the fact that legal electronic communication is beginning to prevail over traditional (written) notifications, the author considers foreign judicial practice and describes some keynotes of foreign researchers. It is concluded that the use of the language of ideograms and emoticons in legally significant messages currently generates legal uncertainty although it is considered as an objective element of the development and use of instant messaging systems. It is proved that neither in Russia nor in foreign countries there is a practice of a single perception of the ideogram language. It is noted that the use of mixed legal texts in messengers is inextricably connected with the general context of legal correspondence and its evaluation as evidence.
