The use of compuer-based translation by the students of technical universities as a component of information and communication competence

The article discusses the self-development of information and communication competence (ICC) of the Technical University student illustrated by the example of computer-based translation use as one of the components of this competence. Attention is drawn to the necessity of forming a reflective-critical style of thinking for self-assessment and self-development of the ICC. The quality that together determine the style of thinking are emphasized. The presence of these qualities in the process of computer-based translation using while working with authentic scientific texts is examined. Statistics of online and offline translators use by the students are given, advantages and disadvantages of these translators from the point of view of adequate translation are analyzed.
