Use of illustrative materials to develop students’ written foreign language communication competence

The article notes the transformation of perception: the surrounding reality ceases to be perceived as a text, the world is comprehended and considered by clips. In light of this, the features of the clip culture and thinking of the new generation determine the need for using visual sources in the learning process. It is shown that the use of visual sources is one of the promising areas for the development of pedagogy and the implementation of a system-activity approach to learning. In this context, the use of visual sources in English classes contributes to improving the effectiveness of teaching as well as developing of the communicative and creative potentials of future graduates. The main attention is paid to the use of visual sources and their communicative potential in the process of learning to write. The main advantages of using visual sources for teaching writing and their types are outlined. The basic approaches to teaching writing and their communicative abilities are given. T The article presents the data of a survey carried out among school teachers of Tyumen city. It is aimed at determining the dominant approach to teaching writing at school. The problem of finding effective methods of teaching foreign language writing is posed. Methodological guidelines for the use of visual sources for teaching students writing are offered.
