The use of oil sludge for the activation of mineral powders, contained in the asphalt-concrete

Бесплатный доступ

The article discusses the physicochemical activation of mineral powders used in asphalt concretes. As a surfactant, the use of waste of oil storage -oil sludge is proposed. Activation of the mineral powders’ surface occurs during the process of joint grinding of powder and sludge in a ball mill. As a result of such activation, the surface of mineral powders acquires hydrophobic properties, there is an improvement in their physical and mechanical characteristics: porosity, bitumen capacity decreases, the rate of swelling of asphalt binders decreases. The introduction of activated powders into the composition of asphalt concrete can significantly reduce the amount of bitumen required in the mixture. In asphalt concrete with activated mineral powders, compared with control samples, there is a decrease in water saturation, which suggests an improvement in the resistance against atmospheric corrosion.
