The new concept of teaching foreign languages at universities aims to establish a new academic environment, compliance with international and national requirements to the level of foreign language competency, presupposing feasibility of international mobility principle. To reach these goals implementation of some innovative conversion is envisaged, to which modular training and extensive application of interactive forms of teaching foreign languages pertain. Module is considered as a basic training unit of structured program on a certain subject, which has its own section of lectures and tutorials, educational and technological maps, literature, assessment blocks. The author gives a definition of interactive education, which requires students’ interaction with educational environment as a source of teachable experience. In comparison with the traditional method, interactive learning has a different character of communication between teacher and students, when initiative is given to students. The paper also considers autonomy as an ability to independently master and use a foreign language; it describes experience of implementation of interactive forms of teaching English at NRU HSE.
