Estimation of chufa (Cyperus esculentus L.) varieties as applied to the biological life support system BIOS-3

Comparative estimation of the chufa sample prior used in the BIOS-3 system and the chufa varieties K-1 (VNIIMK), K-2 Otrada-Kubanskaya (KES/ARIPC), K-14 from the ARIPI collection was carried for the bioregenerative life support system (BLSS) BIOS-3. According to their production and biochemical characteristics, those varieties could be considered as a potential alternative to change the abovementioned sample in BIOS-3. The testing results showed that the chufa sample prior used in BIOS-3 by the combination of its production and biochemical characteristics is the most perspective for cultivation in the conditions of BLSS of the BIOS-3 type.
