The wear mechanisms of elements “brake shoe – wheel – rail” system are considered. Results of researches the wear of rails, carriage and locomotive wheels, pig-iron and composite brake shoes are given. The way of wear reduce in “brake shoe – wheel – rail” system by means of application the ceramic-metal brake shoe is offered.
