Increasing the energy efficiency of mechanized oil production facilities is an urgent technical task. Cur-rently, the mechanized stock of oil producing enterprises is dominated by installations of electric submersible pumps (ESP). There exist a number of methods to increase the energy efficiency of their operation, one of which is transition to a periodic operating mode. This study developed a methodology to assess the effectiveness of an ESP’s transition to a periodic operating mode, taking into account changes in technological process parameters and equipment operating parameters. Based on the developed methodology, an assessment was made of the energy efficiency of ESP operation in periodic operating mode at different well flow rates, as well as at different ratios of operating time and downtime in the cycle. The data obtained as a result of the calculations can be used for practical recommendations when choosing the parameters of the periodic operating mode.
