In 2011 the Southern Don Archaeological Expedition of the Scientific and Methodological Center of the Teacher Training Institute, Southern Federal University (SFedU), carried out excavations in the eastern kurgan group of the Elizavetovskiy cemetery discovering kurgan 136 which contained 10 burials dating to different periods. The kurgan was constructed in the Early Bronze Age, with the earliest primary grave having been made in the same period/ The subsequent grave was deposited during the Middle Bronze Age, and one more grave was made during the Late Bronze Age. Two graves can be dated to the Early Scythian period, three more graves were made when the Elizavetovskiy fortified settlement was occupied. Chronology of one more burial is impossible to establish.
