The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanism of action of micro-additives of aluminum and nickel in zinc melt on the growth of layers in iron-silicon steel at hot dip zinc plating. We analyzed the distribution of aluminum, nickel, silicon about the thickness of the coating. Analysis of the coating by electron microprobe analysis was conducted by scanning the beam in layers over the strip width of 5 micrometers from the surface of the coating to the base metal after every 10 microns. Diagrams of state basic interacting elements were used to explain the results. It was found that nickel atoms are incorporated into the QUOTE phase and partially inhibit its growth. Aluminum atoms replace the silicon atoms on the surface of the workpiece to form iron aluminide and block the effect of silicon on the growth of the coating.
