The study of petroglyphs as opposed to other archaeological sites can be resumed at repeated occasions. In the network of the Russian-French research project the investigation of rock art site Kalgutinsky Rudnick was renewed in 2013 and continued in 2014. Experimental and traceological methods were employed as a part of the study. Results of observations are directed to the comprehension of the mechanism of rock surface modification and alteration. We have distinguished a few characteristics of the local rock. As a result the principle of trace shaping can be understood on the Kalgutinsky granitic rock; hence the differentiation of the pecking traces made by various tools is conceivable.
