The article presents the methodology and results of studies of properties changes of Okinoklyuchevsky brown coal before and after thermal activation in electric arc plasma. The study was carried with methods of measurement of density, specific gravity and total porosity, microscopy of the porous surface, and finding the specific surface area of coal after plasma treatment. The article also addressed the issue of soot containing carbon nanomaterials formation from graphite electrodes and coal processed by electric arc plasma. The study of soot formation was conducted using the software complex for thermodynamic and phase transformations "TERRA".
