Study of the lower Paleolithic site Darvagchai-zaliv-1 (South Eastern Dagestan) in 2016

The article represents the preliminary results received at the Lower Paleolithic cultural chronological complex of the Darvagchai-zaliv-1 site during the 2016 excavation campaign. Archaeological excavation was carried out with a total area of 30 square meters. Description and analysis of the stratigraphic section and lithic collection are uppermost in the article. Feebly marking and unstable core and tool forms characterize the Lower Paleolithic complex of the Darvagchai-zaliv-1 site. Morphologically marked cores are singular. The shattering mode was widely used for blank production. The functional tool types in small amount are represented by scraper-like, notched and compound tools and perforators. Darvagchai-zaliv-1 site is the perspective occurrence with a view to the study of the Lower Paleolithic industries in region, time of their appearance and place in the sequence of the other Lower Paleolithic complexes of Caucasus.
