Investigation into the alfven resonance effect on the fundamental mode generated by instability at the magnetopause

We have resolved the problem of the structure of the surface wave which is generated by the shear flow on the magnetopause and is partially absorbed in the Alfven resonance region. The spatial structure of the wave at the presence of the Alfven resonance near the transition layer of the magnetopause is defined. Analytical expressions describing the frequency and increment of the surface wave, as well as its spatial structure, are obtained for one-dimensionally inhomogeneous medium models. The possibility of the transition layer plasma heating due to the Alfven resonance is discussed.
