The planned series of works consists of three articles devoted to the research of sound iconicity in the Permic languages. In the first article the review and analysis of the Russian and foreign studies devoted to the research of iconicity in language in the Finno-Ugric (Hungarian, Finnish, Estonian) and Permic (Komi [Komi-Zyrian]; Komi-Permyak [Permyak, Komi-Permyak, Kama Permyak, Komi-Perm], Komi-Yazva and Udmurt [Votiak, Votyak]) languages are presented. It is revealed that in the non numerous researches the Finno-Ugric languages are not often considered to be the independent subject of study, but they are used as data for the comparative analysis. Most of the studies are not aimed at the phonosemantical specificity, but at grammatical, semantic and word-formation possibilities and etymology of the iconic words.
