Research of the quality of processing metal by the method of electric wire cutting

During the study, we will cut out a batch of samples using the EDM method, analyze the processing results, measure the dimensions, roughness, and analyze the residual stresses and metallography. We find that after EEA non-critical deviations from the specified dimensions are observed, an increase in the number of passes reduces the roughness and reduces the thickness of the modified (melted) layer. Tensile residual stresses with a maximum value directly on the surface ≈ 600 MPa, depth ≈ 10 μm. Further along the depth, the residual stresses have zero values. For further implementation of the developed technology into pilot production, we find that the formation of a melted layer on the surface of the samples requires the development of a removal technology.
