With references to numerous archival documents proves the fact of occurrence of the Moscow State Institute of Culture in 1913, the founder is Moscow City People’s University A. L. Shanyavsky. After the abolition of the University in 1920 the Library courses functioning in its structure were transferred to the Rumyantsev Museum (now the Russian State Library) and gradually on their basis there was the Moscow Library Institute (1934), in turn transformed to the Moscow State Institute of Culture (1964) and successfully operating now. Considered to be the starting date of July 10, 1930 - a consequence of the historical half-truth, which it is time to correct.
