Sources of biological substances origin in the watercourses of the Penza region

Household drinking water should have high organoleptic characteristics. Odors and flavors of biological nature are common in slow-flow reservoirs. This is observed in cities that use surface water sources, in particular, in the city of Penza. The conducted studies of macrophytes of the Sura River and their odorous substances obtained in the form of water distillations showed a different frequency of the odor character with a change in its intensity. Actinomycetes of the reservoirs themselves, which cover aquatic plants with mycelium, play an important role in the appearance of odors. A study of the water and silt of the Sura River in the spring and autumn periods showed the predominance of actinomycetes in the silt. The increase in the number of microorganisms in the autumn period is caused by the accumulation of dead plankton and benthos, as well as fallen leaves.
