The article examines the relationship of historical memory and history in the global community culture. Historical memory is considered as the basis constituting individual and collective experience. Synthesizing the images of the past, historical memory is the result of the efforts of not only professional historians, but also the creators of the epos, various genres of fiction, plays, films, TV series about the past, works of fine art that tell about it. It acts as “our past”, necessary for finding personal and collective self-identity, solving contemporary problems and predicting the future. Globalization has a significant impact on the way historical memory is produced and disseminated. Against the background of changes taking place in the culture of the global community, the article traces the contradictory relationship of academic historiography and historical memory.
