Statement of the problem. The article is devoted to the study of the poetic representation of historical memory in the poems of A.T. Tvardovsky. The work is based on the analysis of the key motifs of the pre-war, military and post-war stages of the poet’s creative work. The purpose of the article is to identify through which motional and genre aspects the theme of memory is realized in each period of A.T. Tvardovsky’s work. Methodology. The work is performed at the intersection of several productive analytical approaches – historical poetics, genre science as its component, modern studies of the commemorative aspect of culture. Research results. Genre forms of elegy and ballads, used by him to manifest individual and collective memory, play a key role in the poet’s texts. If an elegy is primarily associated with the memory of a single hero, then a ballad is associated with memorable events for the entire nation. In the postwar poems of A.T. Tvardovsky, the problems of generational succession and the preservation of the memory of the dead are of particular importance. Conclusion. The theme of memory in A.T. Tvardovsky’s work evolved from individual memories of family and home to expressing the universal experience of the war, and then returned to feelings of personal loss.
