The article focuses on the thesis that development of national identity and memory is determined by the history that becomes especially relevant in transitive societies. The history is closely intertwined with nationalism. The nationalist intellectuals aspire to interpret historical narratives in the nationalist terms. These activities of the nationalists lead to various consequences. It contributes to diffusion of standards of historical researches and encourages the politicization of the historiography.
