Historical aspects of the development of engineering education in Russia of the 17th - 19th centuries

Statement of the problem. The article analyzes and formulates some problems of the development of engineering education in Russia of the 17th - 19th centuries. Among them, the difficulties of training engineers in the field of mining in the period under study are considered. The purpose of the article is to analyze the main factors that influenced the development of engineering education in Russia; to give examples of educational activities of the state, starting from primary public education to higher technical schools and engineering educational institutions; to identify problematic issues of engineering personnel training in the period under study using the example of mining engineers. Methodology (materials and methods). The methodology of the research consists of the analysis and generalization of memoirs, reports, analytical notes of prominent figures of the studied period and scientific research works of contemporaries. To analyze the historical aspects of the development of engineering education in Russia, a set of methods was used: historical, general scientific and system-structural. Research results. Based on the analysis of documents, some stages of the development of engineering education in Russia of the 17th - 19th centuries are shown: from the declared free and all-religious elementary education to professional engineering education of the 19th century. The issues of the quality of training, the discrepancy among knowledge, skills and abilities of graduates of engineering specialties to the requirements of production, a long period of adaptation at enterprises, the lack of consistency in working with production workers have passed from the studied period to our time.
