The article examines the historical aspects of the theory of human capital, from the inception stage with the first attempts to estimate the productive value of a person, to the formation of the fundamental theory of human capital and modern interpretations of this concept. The ideas contained in the theory radically changed the attitude towards investments in people; they began to be seen as investments that can provide a long-term productive effect
