History and fate of the “especially revered” icons of Temples in the countryside and urban churches of the St. Petersburg province (XIX — early XX centuries)

The article is the text of a report read at the III Scientific and Practical Conference “Empire and the Church”, held on April 14–15, 2022 at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy. The report examines issues related to the history of the appearance (acquisition) of special veneration of local miraculous icons stored in temples and chapels of St. Petersburg province and the fate of the most famous shrines in the post-revolutionary period. Statistics on the objects under consideration and their systematization are given, the geography of the distribution of miraculous icons is determined. Archival and published sources, as well as field ethnographic materials of the author were used to write the article.
