Establishment and development of writing in the Avar language in the context of development of writing of people of Dagestan

The article deals with the issue of establishment and development of Arabic script writing in the Avar language from the ancient times up to the 1930s. The existence of writing at the Avars and in general at the peoples of Dagestan before joining Russia was categorically denied. According to the available sources, the author proves the existence of writing among the Avars even before joining the Russian Empire.
