The history of archaeological research in the Kabardino- Balkaria territory in the pre-war period (1920s - early 1940s)

The history of archaeological research in the territory of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic in the 1920s - early 1940s is highlighted in this paper. The main publications of the field material, its analysis and interpretation are given. The scientific problems of research and generalization of archaeological data relevant to the pre-war era are characterized. The development of approaches to the study of antiquities, goals and methods of archaeological work in the post-revolutionary period are considered, their qualitative changes are evaluated. The relevance of this study lies in the fact that the history of the pre-war stage of archaeological Caucasus studies development is one of the important, complex and underdeveloped problems of the history of Russian science. During the study, the authors found that the pre-war stage of the study and attribution of archaeological monuments of the republic, without a doubt, is a kind of foundation for the work of scientists of the post-war and modern stages.
