History of the study of Russian language in Norway

This article examines the main trends in the development of the study of Russian in Norway since the late 19th century to the modern times. The author also characterizes the activities of Norwegian universities, schools and cultural centers which provide an opportunity to study Russian. Special attention is paid to the major works of Norwegian Slavonic scholars, their role in the formation the interest to the Russian language in Norway, and their contribution to the relations between our countries. The author also makes some forecasts about possible development of Russian-Norwegian cooperation in the sphere of humanities.
