History of development of the Kumtor gold ore deposit: problems and contradictions

The purpose of the article is to study the history of the formation and development of the Kumtor gold deposit. Kumtor is the largest alpine gold deposit in Central Asia. Over the years of the Kumtor project implementation, several agreements have been concluded. The agreements between Kyrgyzstan and Canadian investors on the Kumtor project have changed several times and are important for Kyrgyzstan. But each of them caused many problems for both sides. The article discusses a brief history of agreements on the Kumtor project. The relevance of the research topic is due to the need for a comprehensive analysis of the complex process of formation and implementation of the Kumtor project. When studying the main problems of the research, the author used the general scientific methodological principles of historicism, consistency and scientific objectivity. The study of the historical experience of the development of a Kumtor large gold mining enterprise is necessary from a practical point of view, in order to fully trace the entire range of changes that have occurred and are occurring in the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic and in its most important industry - the mining industry. The novelty of the article lies in the fact that it is one of the first attempts in Russian historiography to comprehensively study the formation and development of the Kumtor gold deposit in the modern period.
