National Museum of Kabardino-Balkarian Republic was founded by Makar I. Ermolenko in February 1921 as the Kabardian National Museum. The basic collecting work was also conducted by Ermolenko, who became the first manager of the museum. Serving at the museum for 18 years he had collected about 24 thousands exhibits. The collection was originally formed by the exhibits reflecting the material culture and everyday life of the Kabardian people. In the first decade of its existence the museum had earned positive feedback from visiting Russian scientists. The museum played an important role in the educating of the local population by the exposition and excursion facilities.
