The formation history of the cantata genre in Mari El

The article considers the formation history of the choral miniature genres in Mari professional music as the foundation for the emergence of major vocal and choral genres - cantata and oratorio. It describes the development and thematic diversity of cantatas, the appearance of the first Mari church cantata “Kusoto” (“Sacred Grove”) by S. N. Makov.
