History of Russia - ASEAN relations in the early 2000s

The article examines the history of Russia's relationship with the Association of South East Asian Nations in the early 2000s. The effectiveness of the parties' cooperation in the fields of politics, economics and socio-cultural relations is assessed. It is noted that the volume of economic cooperation with ASEAN countries has been low in the period under review; therefore, the Russian side has repeatedly made proposals to intensify contacts, which should facilitate a more effective relationship in various areas of cooperation. This goal was accelerated by Russia's joining the East Asia Forum mechanism, which facilitated Russia's inclusion in regional integration processes and led, among other things, to the modernization of the Russian economy in Siberia and the Far East. A significant outcome of the second summit was the development of common approaches to shaping cooperation in addressing security and terrorism issues, as well as continued mutually beneficial bilateral exchanges in the fields of education and culture.
