Historical and demographic characteristics of the agricultural population of the Kuban region in the second half of ХІХ century

The process of settlement of the region was hampered by the obstacles of local character, as the Board of the Cossack army sought to preserve the dominant position of the Cossacks in land holdings. Peasants - immigrants from different regions of the country encountered obstacles from the side of the Kuban Cossack army, which hindered the process of economic development of the region. The bulk of the peasants in the Kuban region in the second half of the nineteenth century remained in various kinds depending on the owners of the land from Cossacks and significantly change the character of agricultural production in their own land could not. Kuban region were significantly different in size from all regions and provinces of the Caucasus region, and in many cases several times. The Cossack population, performing tasks of military service, was not able to develop agricultural production in the region.
