Pedagogical ideas about the development of physical culture and sports presented in the works of political and public figures, teachers are considered. The degree of study of this problem is characterized, the scientific interest of the pedagogical community in it is justified. The stages of the development of physical culture and sports in the history of our country, their main characteristics, the evolution of ideas about the role and importance of physical culture, the orientation of physical education of younger generations are highlighted.
