Historico-pedagogical component in the content of pedagogical education serves to: inform students about most important pedagogical ideas, theories, technologies, life and activity of outstanding pedagogues, facts that were instrumental in the formation of educational institutions and systems, developments in educational policy characterizing development events; promote instilling in students more or less integral understanding of the logic of evolu-tion of the theory and practice of education, of the driving forces and determinants of historico-pedagogical process, its interrelation with the economic, political and cultural evolution of society; ensure students’ understanding of mechanisms of establishing and developing most important pedagogical traditions, reasons for and consequences of historical tendencies in the evolution of the theory and practice of education; give grounds for naturally determined character of emergence of modern forms of theory and practice of education; demonstrate the peculiarities of the formation of Russian pedagogical tradition, of understanding its character and specificity.
