Historiosophy of L. P. Karsavin: between cultural history and metaphysics

The article devoted to L. P. Karsavin’s historiosophy in the context of cultural history and metaphysics. The author of article compared Karsavin’s historical views with his philosophical works of the 1920th, the ideas of platonism and philosophy of “vseedinstvo”. He analyzed Karsavin’s philosophical evolution, formation of his historiosophical concept. The author of article researched Karsavin’s philosophical interpretation of “vseedinstvo” in relation to historiosophy on the example of work “East, West and Russian idea” (1922). Karsavin showed the bases of religious and philosophical worldview in the book “Giordano Bruno” (1923). Karsavin’s work “Church, Personality and State” (1927) is the end of his historiosophical reflections of the 1920th, the views to the relations between Church and personality. N. S. Trubetskoy criticized Karsavin’s ideas; he considered unacceptable application of the concept “personality” to the state and culture. Trubetskoy’s personalism is alternative concept in relation to Karsavin’s historiosophy and metaphysics of “vseedinstvo”. The author of article concluded that Karsavin and Trubetskoy offered two different versions of Christian historiosophy and personalism. Karsavin’s doctrine about “symphonic personality” is result of his personal metaphysical choice.
