Outcomes of the international project on poverty-related issues in Nizhny Novgorod: oblast part 1, 3;

In 2004-2006 an international project "Targeted social assistance" was carried out under the Partnership Programme of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Government and the UK Department for International Development (DFID). The project included monitoring of poverty with the purpose of estimating the extent of poverty in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and the efficiency of measures taken within the frames of the project "Targeted social assistance". The monitoring was conducted in three regions of the oblast in October 2004 and April 2006 with application of the official statistics. The sample covered 1500 households, including 500 households in each of three regions under observation. Development of the survey methods and analysis of the obtained results were performed by researchers from ISESP RAS L.A. Migranova, L.A. Prokofieva, I.I. Korchagina and Head of the Chair at the Nizhny Novgorod State University N.N Ivashinenko under the scientific guidance of N.M.Rimashevskaya, RAS Corresponding Member. Here are published the main results showing estimated incomes of population and extent of poverty in the oblast, the role of social transfers in the formation of monetary incomes, problems of labour market, accessibility of services in the field of education and health care.
