The article deals with the activity of an educator and an opinion journalist Alexander Andreevich Braykovsky (1856–1914). The author’s books were first in a number of alphabet books published by a famous enlightener I. D. Sytin. Isolated facts of the biography of the alphabet book author are generalized, the attempts are made to identify the specificities of his textbooks on reading training.
