Education in Western Siberia began to develop in the 1920 XVIII century. Theological schools successfully functioned in Tobolsk. Under Catherine II, the Tobolsk Seminary was one of eight in Russia with a full eight-year course of study. For the history of the Siberian Region, it was 1839 that became a milestone in national education, when the Orthodox clergy were instructed to open schools for peasant children. The problem of Siberian education is reflected in the works of scientists of the pre-revolutionary, Soviet and post-Soviet periods, such as A.V. Adrianov, E.V. Kim, L.R. Kyzlasov,Mokhov, T.B. Solomatina, V.L. Soskin, Ya. I. Sunchugashev, S.P. Ulturgashev, N.S. Yurtsovsky and others. If the basic information about the origin of the first educational institutions in the Siberian Region is contained mainly in official reports of government officials and statistical reference books of different societies (archives), then materials on the formation of the primary education system in the Sayan-Altai Region are available in separate works of educators, collections of scientific papers and magazines. The paper analyzes the main milestones and directions of the development of school education in Siberia in the pre-revolutionary period. In general, one can notice insufficient study of the problem of the genesis of the national education of the Siberian people in the history of pedagogy of the peoples of Siberia. In addition, the surviving sources contain ambiguous information that requires clarification and scientific and historical assessment. Reliance on historical and pedagogical information in the study of professional and pedagogical activity in conditions of multiculturalism and polyethnicity provides objective scientific reflection, comprehensive and holistic coverage of the essence of the problem under consideration, and the search for ways to effectively solve it.
