Variability and genetic control of the grain number in ear in plants of brewer's barley

In diallel crossing the author estimated the variability and genetic control of the grain number in ear of varieties and intervarietal hybrids F1 of brewer's barley and also the combination ability of varieties. It was shown, that determinant's variability to a great extent depends on the conditions during year (94 %). The unimportant heterosis effect was revealed with respect to the grain number in ear. It was noticed, that the grain number in ear is controlled predominantly by additive-dominant system of genes, therefore the selection on this determinant is necessary to carry out in early generation of hybrids (F2); the Signal variety may be used as donor.
