The article examines the value of the labor productivity parameter as an indicator of the efficiency of economic development, highlights the dominant factors in the growth of labor productivity in the historical retrospective. Thus, the basic feature of productivity growth during the period of manufacturing was the skill of the worker. In terms of large-scale machine production, technical and technological factors played the leading role. The transition to a new stage of economic development - the neo-industrial economy - made it possible to single out the innovative factor (technological, marketing, organizational innovations). A brief overview of technocratic and humanistic approaches to labor productivity management, various aspects of theories of labor productivity management in the works of foreign and domestic researchers of this problem is given. The article considers the dependence of labor productivity on innovative activity using the example of enterprises producing non-metallic mineral products. The empirical basis of the study was made up of statistical data on the state of the innovative potential of the building materials industry, the volume of manufactured and shipped products in general for the industry and the volume of production of innovative products in particular. Based on the analysis, the indicators of labor productivity were determined, taking into account the average number of employees and the number of people directly involved in research and development of an innovative product. The relationship between labor productivity, innovative activity and the share of innovative products is shown. The main reasons for the low innovative activity of enterprises producing non-metallic mineral products are determined.
