Images of the horsemen and dismount archers at the petroglyphs from the Ton river valley in Issyk Kul region of Kyrgyzstan

We analyzed here the carvings, situated in the rock massifs near village of Tuura Suu in the Issyk Kul Basin. The employees of Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography SB RAS and Novosibirsk State University obtained and studied these objects in collaboration with Kyrgyz archaeologist in 2015 field season. We analyzed the images of the horse and dismount archers with bows and arrows in their hand or supported on the belt. Some archers have hunted the wild ungulates on the images. Boz Azyr the petroglyphic site on the Kyzyl Too Mountain contains the images of the horseman and wild goats, carved by the method of knocking out. Man who have set astride the horse is carved with a bow in the bow-cover behind his back. We found a single image of the horseman, carved by method of discrete-point knocking out on the surface of the rock outcrops at the Erkin Too site. The artist depicted windswept hairs on his head or hood, and the bow with bowstring in the bow-cover behind the rump. We obtained here the image of dismount archer with bow and arrow in his hand. He lets fly at wild goat. One more image of archer with bow in his hand were found on the surface of rock outcrop at the Koondoi Mountain. The archer is depict in the process of hunting the wild goats. In museum of Bokonbaevo village the stone is in display, on his surface there is an image of hunter with bow and arrow in the hands, which carved by method of discrete-point knocking out. By the side of it, there are the images of wild goats, hunted by that archer. The similar carvings with scenes of archers hunting the wild goats were obtained at the many other petroglyphic sites of Bronze and Iron Ages, and Middle Ages in Central Asia.
