The paper discusses results of the studies focused on the isotopic composition ( 13С and 15N) of the bone collagen of domesticated and wild animals from two medieval cities in the European part of Russia, i. e. Yaroslavl and Rostov the Great. It wasestablished that the fodder supply for the domesticated ungulates was mostly based onplant resources obtained by people during active land use. However, horses and cowsfrom Rostov the Great grazed all year round. Despite expectations, the percentage share ofkitchen waste in the pigs' diet turned out to be minimal, since vegetation from cultivatedlands was the basis of their food intake.
